Celebrating 85 years of Liberty Municipal Library

    The Liberty Municipal Library opened Sept 14, 1940, at 423 Travis St., and it was the first public library, not only in Liberty, but in the entire county. The one-room structure held up to 5,000 volumes and remained open until the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center opened its doors in 1970. The library will host an 85th Anniversary celebration on Monday, Sept. 14.
