This month Jones Library issued a challenge to the participants of its Summer Reading Program. They were asked to take home a water bottle and turn it into a decorative rocket.

Forty-three contestants brought in rockets to be displayed and judged. A panel of judges came in and judged the rockets this morning. There were five awards won: Grand champion, Reserve Grand Champion, Most Colorful, Most Original, and Best Theme.

The winners of the categories were:

  • Grand Champion — Dawnielle Lawrence
  • Reserve Grand Champion — Ashley Ortiz
  • Most Colorful — Logan Lee
  • Most Original — Erika Sexton
  • Best Theme — Carter Richmond

“We would like to thank our Judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to participate in this program. We would also like to thank all the patrons who entered the contest. You have made this a stellar Summer Reading Program so far!” Children’s Services Library Assistant Sidnie Srader said in the library’s announcement.

The rockets will be on display throughout the rest of the month in the Kidz Zone of the Jones Public Library.
