When you have established a soccer program like Liberty Head Coach Joe Roberts has, then you can have a nice Alumni game to start the season to show off the new and the old. On Friday evening at Memorial Stadium, it was the past Panthers that would prevail by outscoring the varsity by a goal in the second half to capture a 3-2 win in a scrimmage of sorts. Both teams played 30-minute half's and then both sides took part in penalty kicks in which the younger Panthers came out on top 5-4. Both teams scored a goal in the first half of play, and the young Panthers saw Bryan Montes score in the 15th minute for a 1-0 advantage. The Alumni tied the score at 1-apiece with a make in the 25th minute. Tied at the half, the Alumni got a pair of goals in the second half to come out on top 3-2. Abdiel Garcia got the goal for the varsity in the second half.

Playing shorthanded on Saturday afternoon at the Gulf Coast Classic and to a quick Class 5A, Port Arthur Memorial Lady Titans squad, the Liberty Lady Panthers, and Head Coach Chase Sylvia gave Memorial everything they wanted before finally bowing out in the final minutes in a 47-34 loss to the Lady Titans.
