The Dayton Lady Broncos soccer team will hit the pitch for real on January 2 to kick off the 2021 season at home against Liberty with a noon start. Dayton has a scrimmage against La Porte on December 18 at home. The Lady Broncos will stay at home for a Highway 90 contest with the Crosby Lady Cougars on January 5. That weekend, Dayton will play at the La Porte Tournament. District play will start on January 26 in New Caney at Porter high school. The regular season will end on March 12 at New Caney. The Lady Broncos are coached by Ronnie Simicek.
Read moreThe Hardin Lady Hornets received a good team effort on Tuesday night in Saratoga to ease past the West Hardin Lady Oilers 5431 in non-district action. Hardin used a big opening quarter in which they put up 14-points while allowing just four to West Hardin in taking a double-digit advantage. The second quarter was also a good one for the Lady Hornets as they outscored the Lady Oilers 18-n in the period to lead 32-15 at the break. The third quarter was pretty even, with Hardin winning the period by one to lead 44-26 after three. Hardin then doubled up West Hardin 10-5 in the final eight minutes to take the win. Madison Boston was the leading scorer with13 while Haven Crump hauled in 10 rebounds. Rebekah Hebert dished out 6 assists. “The girls played smart ball. They were aggressive on defense and made smart decisions.,” said Lady Hornets Head Coach Zachary Arthur. “It was definitely a team effort, had key plays and players came off the bench last night to help out’ The Lady Hornets will host Coldspring on Friday evening.
Read moreThe Hull-Daisetta Lady Cats used their full-court press in the first half to grab a big first-half lead and then cruised in the second half to a 59-27 win over the Kountze Lady Lions on Tuesday night at home. The Lady Cats used seven first-quarter points by Vaquaylon Hoskins to lead 22-7 after one period of play. The second and third quarters were also friendly for Hull-Daisetta as they held Kountze to just nine-points combined in the periods while putting up 24 themselves and leading big 48-16 heading into the fourth quarter. Hoskins led the way in scoring with 15, while Kaylei Armstrong finished with 12. Chloe Seller also finished in double figures with 10. Samantha Rose and Kaidyn Smith each added eight points apiece. The Lady Cats will travel to Madisonville on Friday.

Carson Williams led Hardin with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Sabine Pass jumped out early and led 11-7 after the opening period before the Hornets started getting tough on defense and held the Sharks to just four points in the second quarter and led 21-15 at the half. Hardin outscored Sabine Pass 11-10 in the third quarter to lead 32-25 heading into the final stanza. The Sharks held the Hornets to just seven points in the final eight minutes but could not overcome the Hardin lead as the Hornets improved their record to 5-1 on the season. Colby Barrett added 10 points, and 2 steals while Landon Taylor finished with 8 points. Hardin will host Warren on Friday night and then welcome in West Hardin the following day for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
Read moreThe Cleveland Indians finished the 2020 football season on a positive note Friday night at Indians Stadium with a 34-3 win over the Caney Creek Panthers. Cleveland got on the score-board first with Chris Duncantel scoring on a 35-yard touchdown run to make it 6-o with 4:00 minutes left in the opening quarter. Caney Creek did cut the deficit to 6-3 on a field goal before the Indians put up 16-points in the second quarter to lead 22-3 at the half. The Indians would get scores on a Cary Wood 17-yard touchdown run, and then a successful two-point conversion made it 16-3, and then a 6-yard passing touchdown from Tyler Spencer to De’Vonte Robertson made it 22-3. Early in the third quarter, Spencer busted loose for a 6o-yard score that increased Cleveland’s lead to 28-3. The final Indians score came on an Andrew Alpha 2-yard touchdown run later in the third quarter to make it a 34-3 advantage. Cleveland finished its season at 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the district.

Read moreDown by eight points at the half, the Crosby Lady Cougars turned the defensive pressure on in the second half and held Dayton to just eight second half points in taking a 45-38 victory over the Lady Broncos in non-district play at Dayton High School on Tuesday night. Allie Davis had a big first half for the Lady Broncos in scoring 12 of her 17 points. Trailing 10-6 in the opening quarter, Davis scored on a drive to get Dayton within 10-8. Down 12-9 after a quarter of play, Davis nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 12-apiece. Davis continued her scoring, and after back-to-back buckets on drives, the Lady Broncos led 20-17, and Crosby needed to talk about it. The Dayton run continued with a Jerrica Keener threepoint play to build the advantage to 24-17 with 1:57 left in the first half. Mary Robinson then got into the act and grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to make it a 28-17 lead, and the Lady Broncos were on a 12-0 run. The Lady Cougars ended the first half on a modest 5-2 run to cut the deficit to 30-22, heading into the locker room. It looked as if Dayton was going to pick up where they left off to start the third quarter as Davis nailed a three-pointer and was fouled, and the Lady Broncos had a 33-22 advantage. The game then changed, and Dayton was held scoreless the rest of the quarter as Crosby ended the period on a 15-0 run to lead 37-33 after three quarters of play. The Lady Cougars built the lead to 41-35 midway through the fourth quarter until Davis scored off an assist from Amber Kelly to cut the advantage to 41-37 with 4:07 left. That would be the closest the Lady Broncos would get the rest of the way as Crosby held Dayton to just a single point in taking the win. Jerrica Keener finished with 7 points. The Lady Broncos will host New Caney Porter on Friday evening.
Read moreOn Friday night in Humble, the Dayton Broncos finished up the 2020 football season with a 45-6 loss to Kingwood Park at Turner Stadium in district 12-5A-II play. Dayton jumped out in front and then could not score the rest of the way as the Panthers finished the game by scoring the final 45-points. The Broncos jumped out quickly, with quarterback Blayne Denton finding Donovan Orebo on a 32-yard scoring strike to give Dayton a 6-o lead with 10:23 left in the first quarter. Kingwood Park then responded with a Juan Garcia 4-yard run, and after the Anthony Sterner PAT, the home team led 7-6. The score stayed the same until the second quarter when the Panthers increased their lead on a Hudson Dezell to Cavan Adrian’s 17-yard strike to make it 14-6. Kingwood Park then made it 21-6 with 1:15 left in the first half as Code Brady scored from 6-yards out. The Panthers were not done as Sterner booted a 40-yard field goal with no time remaining in the first half, and the advantage was 24-6 at the break. Dezell then put the game away with a couple of touchdown passes in the third quarter, with the first one coming at the 4:49 mark of the quarter and an 18-yard strike to Adrian and a 31-6 lead. With just 55 seconds left in the quarter, it was Dezell hooking up with Patrick Overmyer from 17-yards out, and the score was 38-6. Garcia rounded out the scoring for Kingwood Park early in the fourth quarter by running in from the i-yard line. Dayton finished the game with 354-yards of total offense. Denton passed for 200-yards on 15 of 29 attempts, while Orebo caught six-passes for 104 yards. Kameron George added two receptions for 45-yards while Daveon Washington rushed for 107-yards on 19 totes.
