The Dayton Broncos put together a good team effort on Tuesday night at home, and it paid off as they edged out the Caney Creek Panthers 51-49 in a district contest. Tanner Boufford led the scoring for the Broncos with 14 points. It was Isaac Ramirez that got Dayton out to a quick start, though, by scoring the game’s first five points for the Broncos as they led 5-2. Boufford then connected from downtown, and Dayton was up 8-2. Later in the opening quarter, Donovan Orebo hit the offensive boards and scored, and the Bronco’s advantage was up to 17-10. Caney Creek scored the final four points of the period to cut the deficit to 17-14 after one. In the second quarter, the lead ballooned to 24-16 thanks to a three-pointer by Boufford. Once again, the Panthers closed the period on a run and moved to within 26-23 at the break. Caney Creek started the third period on a 13-6 run to lead 36-33 before a bucket by Ramirez pulled Dayton to within 36-35 with 2:41 left in the third quarter. The Broncos would move in front and lead 41-39 after three-quarters of play. Dayton started the final eight minutes on a 6-0 run led by a bucket by Orebo and a score from Houston Gault with the assist from Orebo to lead 47-39 with 5:14 left in the game. The Panthers closed the advantage to 49-47 with under a minute remaining before two free throws by Gault iced the game away and made it 51-47 with 26 seconds left. Orebo finished with 8 points for Dayton, while Ramirez added 7. The Broncos will host Porter at home on Friday night.

Dayton wasted little time in grabbing an early 1-0 lead as Francisco Sanchez scored on a penalty kick in the 8th minute. The Bulldogs quickly responded as they drew a Bronco penalty in the 13th minute and scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-apiece. A minute later, Nederland took the lead for good as Bilal Alani scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1. Dayton had a shot-on-goal in the 26th minute, but Ismael Navarro could not find the nets. A couple of minutes later, Bryan Martinez had a look that almost found the nets. The second half did not feature a lot of shots-on-goal as the Bulldogs kept the Broncos from making a good threat as they would hold on for the win. Dayton will be back in action this weekend as they host the Bronco Tournament at Houston Methodist Field.

Nederland jumped out 1-0 on the 7th minute on a goal and then added another one at the 18th minute to lead 2-0. The Lady Bulldogs then made it a 3-o game when they found the nets again in the 22nd minute. The score stayed the same until Nederland put in a goal late in the second half for the 4-0 win. Lali Garcia, Kennedy Evans, and Alondra Rodriguez all led the way for Liberty.

Down 6-3 early on, Madyson Goudeau connected from downtown to tie the score at 6-apiece. Splendora then responded with a 6-o run to move back ahead 12-6 until Olivia Moore nailed a three-pointer to make it 12-9. Just before the end of the opening quarter, the Panthers moved ahead, with Moore scoring on a drive. Goudeau gave Liberty a 25-22 advantage late in the first half by scoring on a drive to the bucket. The Lady Panthers would lead 27-24 at the half. Goudeau then caught fire in the third quarter as her two straight three-pointers gave Liberty a 33-24 lead. A couple of minutes later, it was Goudeau connecting again from downtown, and the advantage was in double digits at 38-28. Leading 41-33 heading into the final quarter, the Lady Panthers scored only four points the rest of the way. The final Liberty score came on a Moore three-point play to make it a 45-38 score with 2:24 remaining. Splendora then closed the game by scoring the last n-points of the night to get the win. Goudeau scored 16 points to lead the Lady Panthers in scoring while Moore finished with 9. Cheyenne Williams and Drelyn Willis each chipped in with 6 points. Liberty will have a bye on Friday and return to action on January 19 at home against Livingston.

Dayton got off to a quick start early on and things were looking good. A steal and bucket by Kyra Keener were the first points of the game and then a drive and score by Jerrica Keener made it 6-2 Lady Broncos. Early in the second period it was Kyra Keener putting two more points in with a leaner to run the lead to 13-5. Montgomery then went on an 8-0 run to tie the score at 13-apiece with 3:05 left in the half. Allie Davis then put an end to the run by connecting from downtown and Dayton was back in front at 16-13. The Lady Bears scored the final three points of the half to tie the score at 16-apiece. Down 19-16, Amber Kelly grabbed an offensive rebound an score to make it 19-18 early in the third period. Late in the third quarter, the Lady Broncos tied the score at 22 with Jerrica Keener scoring on a assist from Davis. Montgomery ended the period on a 6-2 run to lead 28-24 after three quarters. The Lady Bears then dominated the final eight minutes of play as they scored the first 12-points of the quarter to lead 40- 24 with 2:44 left. Dayton would end the run and get a basket by Jerrica Keener to make it 41-26 with 1:05 left. But the damage had already been done and the Lady Bears were leaving town with the victory. Jerrica Keener led the Lady Broncos in scoring with 8 points while Kyra Keener and Amber Kelly each added six-points each. Dayton will host Kingwood Park on Friday night.
