Read moreBarbers Hill quarterback Brent Holdren accounted for all six touchdowns, with four of those being on the ground to lead the Eagles to a 42-6 win over the Dayton Broncos on Friday afternoon in District 12-5A-II action at Houston Methodist Field at Bronco Stadium. The game featured a twohour weather delay as bad weather moved in over Dayton right at halftime. The win clinched a playoff spot for Barbers Hill. The Eagles jumped out early as the defense forced an interception, with Theron Pierre stepping in front of a Bronco pass and setting the offense up at the 45- yard line. Seven plays later, it was Holdren scoring from 3-yards out to give his team a 7-0 lead. Dayton’s next offensive series saw the Broncos forced to punt, and after a 6-yard punt, Barbers Hill was at the Dayton 30-yard line. A couple of plays later, it was Holdren connecting with Canden Grogan for a 22-yard score the Eagles led 14-0 with 6:40 left in the opening quarter. The Broncos did get a big play on their next offensive possession as quarterback Blayne Denton laid out a beautiful pass to Cameron Cooper, who raced 69-yards down to the Barbers Hill 29-yard line. Dayton could not get anything out of it, though, as they turned the ball over on downs. The Broncos did have fumble recoveries by Jaxon Day and Esteban Vega in the first half. After the long halftime delay, the Eagles wasted little time extending their advantage, with Holdren motoring 51-yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0 just a minute into the second half. Dayton responded with a nice 75-yard 10-play drive capped off with a Denton to Kameron George 13-yard score to get the Broncos within 21-6 at the 7:12 mark of the third quarter. Barbers Hill got the score back a couple of minutes later, with Holdren scoring on a 22-yard keeper to make it 28-6 with 4:33 left in the third. On the first play of the fourth quarter, the Eagles put the game away, with Holdren doing it again on the ground on a 7-yard score and the advantage was 35-6 with 11:53 left. The final Barbers Hill touchdown came on a Holdren to Andrew Galvan 54-yard score with 8:09 left on the clock. Denton finished the game with 213-yards passing, and George caught six passes for 40-yards. Davin Lee added 4-receptions for 70-yards. Dayton will close out the 2020 season on Friday night in Humble against Kingwood Park.
